There's no place like Rome!
Here's how we would spend two unforgettable days in Rome.
Day 1
Start with the Colosseum
You’ve come all this way to Rome, and you want to see its most iconic sights...but first coffee, find a cafe and have a traditional Italian breakfast of a cappuccino and a pastry.
It is impossible to get lost heading to the Colosseum, take the metro to the stop marked “Colosseo”, it will practically greet you as you exit the station.
Tip: As this is a short trip to Rome, I recommend purchasing a tour before you travel to skip the line.
Roman Forum
Right next door to the Colosseum sits the impressive Roman Forum.
You will be blown away by how big the forum is enjoy strolling through the remains of the buildings and avenues, it is fun and surprisingly easy to imagine what it must have looked like in all of its glory during the height of the Roman Empire.
Palatine Hill
Within the Roman Forum sits Palatine Hill, taking a short climb will reward you with even more ruins and incredible Roman history, but also gorgeous views of the Roman Forum, the Colosseum, and the city of Rome itself.
The Trevi Fountain
The walk to the Trevi Fountain takes about 25 minutes from Palatine Hill, this would be a great time to stop for lunch. There are so many beautiful cafes on the walk. It is going to be busy here, If you want you can switch up the itinerary and visit at Dawn.
Don't forget to toss a coin into the fountain to ensure a return to Rome.
Galleria Sciarra
This small courtyard is not only absolutely beautiful, but because it is just down the street from the Trevi Fountain it's worth taking a moment to take in the beauty.
Terrezza Del Pincio – Sunset
This magnificent terrace offers an incredible view of the historic centre. It’s also one of the best places to catch the sunset in Rome.
Day 2
Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel
Let’s start the day by visiting the smallest country in the world: the Vatican!
There are 13 museums located in a huge 7 km-long architectural complex. There are several routes you can take which will last between 1- 5 hours. You don't have to visit them all. At the end, you will visit the famous Sistine Chapel.
St. Peter's Basilica
When you enter the basilica, you will be surprised by the size of the place. There, you can admire the baroque decorations, the statue of St. Peter, the huge dome designed by Michelangelo and the vaults of the popes.
Castel Sant'Angelo
After your visit, leave St. Peter's Square and walk down Via della Conciliazione to reach Castel Sant'Angelo in around 10 minutes. It was used as a refuge for the popes during enemy invasions of the Vatican. A secret passage allowed them to get there quickly without being seen!
The Trastevere district
If you want to finish your weekend in Rome in style, you should go to the Trastevere, one of the most typical districts of the city.
Take a stroll through the narrow streets, discover the shops and small businesses and of course take the opportunity to dine in a trattoria, far from the mass tourism. This will be a great way to end your Two-Days in Rome!
